(Wheaton, IL)—On April 18, heavy downpours led to substantial flooding in areas of Wheaton, IL. Crossway was struck hard by the floods, with the entire first floor under 20 inches of water. The effect of the flood was to wipe out all of our first-floor offices, about 35 total.

The building was closed for two days, with Crossway employees working mainly from their homes. All warehousing had recently been moved to an external location, which minimized the impact on shipping and fulfillment; only a day was lost in fulfilling orders.

The recovery crew has already begun the demolition of the first floor, but the process of rebuilding and restoration will likely take six months. While the cost of damage is still being assessed, Crossway expects to incur significant construction costs to ensure that the building is “flood-proof” in the future.

The Crossway staff is enthusiastic about making the best of a difficult situation. Makeshift offices have been created anywhere space can be found on the second floor, including hallways and a closet normally used for supplies.

“Having gone through both flood and fire in recent years, our confidence is all the more in the Lord, who alone is our hope and our salvation,” Lane Dennis, president of Crossway, wrote to staff after the flood. “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers they shall not overwhelm you…” (Isaiah 43:2).

Crossway is grateful for the prayers, support, and numerous ways friends have offered to help. We’re trusting in God’s provision and plan in the midst of these difficult circumstances.
